BCW results - 11/10/13 Portland, OR

I got a chance to watch some of the BCW show on Sunday via ustream. The show is going to be streamed live at www.ustream.tv/channel/kouv every Sunday at 6 PM. I missed the opening match or angle, not sure what it was. I watched on mute since the audio was messed up and almost painful to listen to.

1) Keith Atkins def. Demarcus James with a figure four leglock

2) Erik Hanson def. GRESHAM SAVIOR Buddy Highway with a downward spiral after his manager interfered (I think it was Hanson's manager anyway)

3) Gregor Petrov def. Big Vicious after Roy Lovejoy interfered

The show went to intermission at this point, and my stream froze up and died. I gave up trying to get it to work, so I missed the second half of the show. Anyone with results, feel free to e-mail me.

I hope they get all the technical glitches worked out, because I like the idea of watching the shows online, especially since I pretty much will never be able to get to a show on a Sunday night in North Portland.

RIP Dutch Savage 1935-2013

One of the biggest stars in the history of the area, Dutch Savage, passed away on August 3rd. Savage had been in the hospital for weeks after suffering several strokes.

He wrestled in Japan, All-Star Wrestling out of Canada, the AWA, San Francisco, and other areas, but was most well known for his time in the Pacific Northwest.

Savage was one of the biggest stars in Portland during the 70's, a decade where he originated the Coal Miner's Glove match and was a 6-time PNW tag team champion with future WWE star Jimmy Snuka. He also ran the Washington territory and was a color commentator for Portland Wrestling/Big Time Wrestling when his career began to wind down. Years later, he returned to wrestling as the commentator for Sandy Barr's Championship Wrestling USA in the mid 90's.

After getting out of pro wrestling, Savage had a career in real estate and became involved with religion.

RIP Matt Borne

Matt Borne was one of the more successful local wrestlers in the 80s and early 90s, advancing onto the national stage with runs in WWF and WCW. But his own personal demons kept him from ever achieving long term success in the business.
1957-2013 RIP

Matt followed his father, one of Portland's all-time biggest draws, Tough Tony Borne, into the business in the late 1970s. He held the Pacific Northwest tag team title with Mr. Electricity Steve Regal (not to be confused with the WWE/WCW wrestler) and Rip Oliver. He also held the PNW Heavyweight title for one day in 1981, winning it from Buddy Rose, and losing it back to him the next day.

He had success in Mid-South Wrestling, forming a stable called the Rat Pack with Ted DiBiase and Jim Duggan, and holding the Mid-South tag team title with DiBiase in 1982.

His first national run came as a preliminary wrestler for the WWF in 1985 and 86. This run would be completely unmemorable if not for the fact that he faced Ricky Steamboat on a card titled WrestleMania.

After finishing up in the WWF, Borne had his most success in World Class Championship Wrestling. He held the tag team title with Buzz Sawyer and Jeff Jarrett, and had two reigns as the Texas Heavyweight champion. He had a memorable feud with Kerry Von Erich just before Von Erich went to the WWF as the Texas Tornado.
WCW 6-man Champs

His next national run came in 1991 when he signed with WCW. Borne was Big Josh, a lumberjack from the woods of Oregon. He debuted by jumping out of the crowd to save Tommy Rich from a beatdown. Rich would then train him to become a pro wrestler. He held the 6-man tag team title with Dustin Rhodes and Tom Zenk and the U.S. tag team title with Ron Simmons. He never progressed past the mid-card, mostly because the gimmick wouldn't allow it, and left the promotion in the spring of 1992.

Doink the Clown
A few months after leaving WCW, Borne arrived in the WWF for the biggest run of his career. He became Doink the Clown, an evil clown who played pranks on the babyface wrestlers. He feuded with Crush and faced him at WrestleMania 9. He faced all the top stars in the WWF at the time, including Mr. Perfect and Bret Hart, but unfortunately, his drug problems got in the way and he was fired in the fall of 1993.

Shortly after Eastern Championship Wrestling became Extreme Championship Wrestling, Borne became a character called Borne Again, mocking the Doink persona, and aligning with ECW champion Shane Douglas. But the character never got going as his personal problems once again got in the way.

Borne in 1996
He continued to appear on independents as Doink the Clown. He returned to Portland in 1996 and became a regular for Sandy Barr's Championship Wrestling USA. He had a lengthy feud with Jesse Barr that included many different gimmick matches like chicken wire cage matches. Borne began to book the shows and the quality of the KOIN T.V. program really turned around. Crowds were seemingly increasing when Sandy closed the promotion down. I never knew the story behind this, but always assumed it was a split between Barr and Borne.

Borne worked with Ivan Kafoury to start the new Portland Wrestling in 1997. It was in this promotion, that he trained former U of O football player Josh Wilcox, and put together a card for Wilcox's debut that drew over 700 fans and received news coverage. There hasn't been a local show of this magnitude since.

He continued to wrestle through the 2000's, including appearing as Doink the Clown on the Raw 15th Anniversary special, and most recently appearing on KPTV's Portland Wrestling Uncut. He was found dead by his girlfriend on June 28th.

Portland Wrestling Uncut Off Until Fall

After the show at 212 Sports, the promotion announced the cancellation of their T.V. taping due to a broken ring. Normally I could accept that. They discovered the ring was broken the day of the event. But it seems a little odd to me they couldn't rent a ring from one of the other promoters in town, especially considering one of those said promoters works for them as a referee.

Then a week after the cancelled taping due to the broken ring, they announced they would not be taping any new shows until Fall. Their facebook post referenced summertime activities and sporting events as the reason. Seems to me that college football and playoff baseball in the fall would make for far greatest competition than the sun in the summer.

So for the second time in it's short history, when this promotion started building some momentum, they have gone on a hiatus. Oh well. DOA, BCW, and WCWC will be running shows all summer long, and I'm sure none of them plan on going on a three month hiatus if a ring breaks.

Portland Wrestling Uncut T.V. recap - 6/15/13

-Joe V and Mike Santiago open the show. Joe says the PNW heavyweight title has been held up after the controversy surrounding last night's title match at 212 Sports.

-Joe V interviews Wade Hess and Thunder, which brings out RAVENOUS Randy and Scotty Mac to set up a tag team match. But before that match can start, the Blanchard Brothers come out and the match becomes a 3-WAY DANCE!

-Joe V and Roddy Piper on commentary

-Match #1
Wade BY GOD Hess & Thunder vs. RAVENOUS Randy Myers & Scotty Mac vs. the Blanchard Brothers was ruled a no-contest when all hell broke loose with all six guys fighting in the ring at once

-Joe V interviews Eric Right and his personal trainer Valentine, leading to a confrontation with Ethan HD setting up the next match

-Match #2
Ethan HD defeated Eric Right by DQ when Right wouldn't stop GROUND AND POUNDING HD after he was hitting on Valentine. After the match, Valentine made Right do push-ups.

-Don Coss hosts the FLASHBACK: Buddy Rose v Jonathan Boyd

-Match #3
Mike Santiago defeated Pugsley with the LETHAL WEAPON

-Match #4
Big Ugly & the NEW PNW tag team champs Colt Toombs & Pat large defeated Exile, Dr. Kliever, & Eric Baeden when Large pinned Baeden with a small package

Very poorly put together show this week. Obviously rushed. Joe V and Santiago opened the show, but then Joe and Piper did all the PBP. During the main event, the announcers went to a commercial and came back, WITHOUT actually going to a commercial. Then a few minutes later, a commercial was randomly inserted into the match.

Portland Wrestling Uncut T.V. recap - 6/8/13

-Jonas Robinson interrupts Joe V as he's opening the show and says he will join him on commentary since Josh Wilcox is out this week. Joe interviews Colt Toombs & Pat Large and the Blanchards & Mr. Ooh La La about tonight's tag team title match.

-Match #1 - PNW Tag Team Championship
Colt Toombs & Pat Large defeated the Blanchard Brothers (c) to win the title when Toombs pinned Bubba after Scotty Mac and Randy Myers interfered. The Blanchards brawled with Myers and Mac after the match.

-Roddy Piper chased Jonas Robinson away during the previous match and took over the color commentary.

-Toombs and Mac are shown backstage celebrating their title win, not even phased by the fact they won with shenanigans. They say they will defend the titles Friday at 212 Sports.

-Joe V interviews the Blanchards, who challenge Mac and Myers to a match on Friday.

-Match #2 - Battle Royal Qualifier
Ethan HD defeated Demarcus James after Gentleman George accidentally tripped Demarcus. George and Demarcus argued after the match.

-Joe V interviewed Dillon Divine, who will attempt to win a PWU contract and a spot in the #1 contender battle royal in the next match. Divine does a crazy gimmick.

-Match #3 - Battle Royal Qualifier
GRESHAM SAVIOR Buddy Highway defeated Dillon Divine with a superkick
Highway wins his first match on PWU, and Joe V reacted like he was Jim Ross and Barry Horowitz just won a match

-Joe V interviewed Thunder and Wade Hess. As Hess entered the ring for the start of their match, Pugsly and Jorel Nelson jumped Thunder. Thunder fought them off and threw them out of the studio.

-Match #4 - Battle Royal Qualifier
Thunder and Wade BY GOD Hess defeated Dr. Kliever and Eric Baeden when Thunder pinned Baeden after a lariat. After the match, Kliever attacked Baeden.

-Joe V interviewed Big Ugly, who called out the Grappler and the new PNW champ Exile. Ugly says Exile doesn't need Grappler in his corner. Exile agrees to give Ugly a rematch on Friday, much to Grappler's chagrin. Ugly says he will only take the match if Exile is a man and faces him without Grappler. Exile says he will handcuff Grappler in the corner so he won't interfere. Ugly brings out the REPLACEMENT WRESTLERS, who tackle Grappler and handcuff him. Poor Grappler, everyone hates him.

I really enjoyed the show this week. I liked the heavy promotion for Friday's house show. They've done a good job building it, so it will be interesting to see what kind of crowd they draw.

Northwest News

Portland Wrestling Uncut T.V. recap - 5/25/13

-Show opens with the return of ROWDY RODDY PIPER after a several week absence. Piper actually plugs a HOUSE SHOW! June 14th at 212 Sports in Clackamas. He calls it the first sanctioned Portland Wrestling Uncut house show, so I'm not sure what all the other events were. I guess this is the first official one since it's the first one they are actually going to acknowledge on T.V. There will be a battle royal on the show where the winner gets a PNW title shot any time they want, presumably like money in the bank. There will also be a Piper's Pit.

-Joe V interviews SCOTTY  MAC and RAVENOUS RANDY MYERS. Joe V announces they are no longer replacement wrestlers because they have signed official PWU CONTRACTS! I have no doubt they will quickly become one of the best acts on the show. Colt Toombs and Pat Large interrupt. Everyone cuts promos on each other, they brawl, and we have an impromptu match.

-Joe V & Bubba Blanchard on PBP

-Match #1
Colt Toombs & Pat Large defeated Ravenous Randy Myers & Scotty Mac when Toombs pinned Myers by reversing a bodyslam into a roll-up
Toombs is still incredibly green but he's very athletic, so I think he could be pretty good once he gets some experience. It's a shame he only works on the PWU shows, because there are a ton of indies in the Northwest he could be working on to gain experience, rather than only wrestling a few matches a month.

-Joe V interviewed Eric Right. He introduces his new personal trainer, a lady named Valentine. She's not Chyna or anything, but she's got guns.

-Match #2 - June 14th Battle Royal Qualifier
Eric Right defeated Demarcus James with a roll-up and handful of tights after James missed a fist drop off the top rope

-Joe V interviewed THE REPLACEMENT WRESTLERS. Jonas Albert Robinson complains about only the contracted wrestlers being on the June 14th show. He challenges anyone in the locker room to face them so they can win a match and earn a contract. Mike Santiago comes out and says he will face one of the replacement wrestlers tonight. Jorel Nelson steps up and we have a match.

-Match #3 - June 14th Battle Royal Qualifier
Mike Santiago defeated Jorel Nelson with the Lethal Weapon aka the Roaring Elbow

-The Grappler and Exile cut a promo for the June 14th show. Exile wants to face Ugly alone and tells Grappler not to get involved. Grappler says he's carried Exile far enough, so he agrees to let him go it alone.

-Joe V interviewed PNW champ Big Ugly. He's pissed off about the scabs beating up Joe V a few weeks ago. He says he will beat them up next time he sees them. Man, if he had only come out a segment earlier.

-Match #4 - PNW Heavyweight Championship
Exile defeated Big Ugly (c) to win the title with a splash off the top rope
Prior to the finish, the Grappler kicked Ugly in the head with his LOADED BOOT. Exile didn't see it, and splashed Ugly for the win.

There will be no new episode next week due to Rose Festival coverage. The show returns June 8th.

With the replacement wrestler storyline pretty much over, and the added direction of building to the house show, this show was a huge improvement over the last couple months. Good stuff.

Portland Wrestling Uncut T.V. recap - 5/18/13

-Show opens with Joe V surrounded by all the PWU wrestlers. A clip of one of the scabs (Kellen Raeth) punching Joe V from last week aired. Hess calls out the Grappler, who comes out and cuts a promo to set up a 6 on 6 TURF WAR for tonight's main event.

-They ran a new commercial to advertise the May 21st live event in Milwaukie. No matches announced. I think it's so lame they have a T.V. show and run a monthly house show in town, but don't use the T.V. at all to push interest in the house show.

-Joe V & XFL sensation Josh Wilcox on PBP

-Joe V interviews the Blanchard Brothers. These guys are promo machines.

-Match #1 - PNW Tag Team Championship
The Blanchard Brothers (c) defeated Scotty Mac & RAVENOUS Randy Myers by DQ
Mac attacked Ooh La La at ringside and took one of the title belts, which he used to KO both Blanchards. Bubba juiced. I'm hoping this result means Mac and Myers are going to be regulars. Myers does a comedy shtick, complete with really exaggerated bumping, and holds the prestigious distinction of being my FAVORITE WRESTLER !

-Joe V interviewed the Hobo, who may be a scab, but is a total babyface.

-Match #2
The Hobo defeated Dillon Divine with a sidewalk slam out of a backdrop
A great spot saw Hobo pull down his suspenders ala Jerry Lawler, and then tune up the band ala Shawn Michaels, but he was stomping both feet and Joe V called it tuning up the jug band.

-Match #3
DOA champ Dr. Kliever defeated THE GRESHAM SAVIOR Buddy Highway with a double handed chokeslam

-FLASHBACK with Don Coss featured highlights of Beetlejuice (Art Barr) vs. Col. DeBeers. Referee (and wrestler) Joey Jackson stole the show with his tremendous permed mullet

-Interview with PNW champ Big Ugly via SKYPE. He will be back next week to put his belt on the line against Exile. He doesn't blame Exile for giving him a concussion, and says he would have done the same to Exile.

-Joe V interviewed Exile & the Grappler, with Grappler taking credit for teaching Exile everything he knows. Exile reveals he will be on the PWU team in the TURF WAR, which pisses off the Grappler.

-Match #4 - 12-man tag team TURF WAR
Team PWU (Exile, Wade BY GOD Hess, Thunder, Colt Toombs, Pat Large, & Mike Santiago) defeated Grappler's Replacement Wrestlers (Kellen Raeth, Jonas Albert Robinson, Hot Hands Mendoza, Demarcus James, Jorel Nelson, & Erik Baeden) when Thunder pinned Demarcus after a Dominator

Portland Wrestling T.V. recap - 5/11/13

The show opens with the Grappler surrounded by his replacement wrestlers. Most noteable are ECCW wrestlers SCOTTY MAC and RAVENOUS RANDY MYERS. Thunder and Wade BY GOD Hess come out and Thunder starts shoving the scabs. Things calm down and Grappler challenges them to face four of his guys in a handi-cap match tonight. Mike Santiago comes out next and cuts a promo challenging any of the scabs or PWU wrestlers. Colt Toombs comes out and our opening match is set after a commercial break.

Joe V and Josh Wilcox on PBP. Wilcox does a good job, so I'm glad this has seemingly become the regular announce team.

Match #1
Colt Toombs defeated Mike Santiago by DQ when Demarcus James attacked Toombs just as he had Santiago locked in an armbar. Jorel Nelson and Jonas Albert Robinson join the attack on Toombs. Santiago walks off, allowing the scabs to triple team Toombs. Pat Large runs in for the save and helps Toombs clear the ring.

Joe V interviews Eric Right and Hot Hands Mendoza prior to their match

Match #2
Hot Hands Mendoza defeated Eric Right with a double arm DDT

Joe V interviewed THE BOXCAR SUPERSTAR - THE HOBO from Championship Wrestling from Hollywood. Oh man, this guy is awesome. I suggest you look him up on youtube.

PNW champ Big Ugly cut a promo via SKYPE. He is getting over a concussion and will be back on PWU as soon as he is cleared.

Match #3
Ravenous Randy Myers & Scotty Mac defeated Derek Drexl & Erik Baeden when Mac pinned Drexl after a super kick

Joe V interviewed Mac & Myers. Mac mentions his prior run in Portland Wrestling for Frank Culbertson's promotion when he was pushed as the star of the promotion. Mac says when you want the best wrestlers you look north to Canada. This brings out the Blanchard Brothers and Mr. Ooh La La who issue a challenge for a tag team title match next week.

Match #4
Thunder & Wade BY GOD Hess defeated Kellen Raeth, Causmo, Pugsly, & Jorel Nelson in a handi-cap match when Hess pinned Raeth

Joe V interviewed the replacement wrestlers in the ring after their loss. Raeth punched Joe V, which caused a huge brawl between the PWU wrestlers and the scabs. Show ends with all the wrestlers brawling in the ring.

Portland Wrestling Uncut T.V. recap - 5/4/13

-Joe V opens the show reviewing footage of last week's match between Exile and Big Ugly. He reveals Ugly suffered a concussion in the match and will be out for several weeks, but when he returns he will face Exile in a rematch. Exile starts to cut a promo, but the Grappler interrupts. He takes credit for getting Exile the rematch. Joe V says tonight the PWU wrestlers will face the scabs, and Exile will face scab Erik Baeden. Joe V asks Grappler who's corner he will be in, but Grappler won't answer.

-Joe V and XFL Superstar and former PNW champ Josh Wilcox on PBP

-Match #1
Azul Angel (PWU) def. Rock'n Ricky Gibson (scab) with a hurricanrana off the top rope
You may have forgotten who Azul Angel is, but he was the masked guy who helped out Gabriel Iglesias back before all the strike nonsense began.

-Joe V interviews Pat Large & Colt Toombs. Large says he has removed the captain logo off his arm because he and Toombs are equals now. He says they are united against the scabs who are taking food off their table. I somehow think Colt's okay. Having Roddy Piper for a dad should mean you will never go hungry. They rock, paper, scissor to see who will wrestle first and Large wins. Toombs then suggests that whoever takes the longest to win tonight has to buy the drinks. Large agrees but adds that if he wins the fastest, Toombs has to buy the drinks AND bring his sister.

-Joe V attempts to interview scab Dillon Divine, who acts all weird but never speaks.

-Match #2
Pat Large (PWU) defeated Dillon Divine (scab) with a small package
Joe V mentioned during the match that Grappler was bringing in scab wrestlers from Canada and Hollywood as soon as next week.

-Backstage, Grappler gives Erik Baeden a pep talk for his match with Exile

-Joe V interviews Gentleman George Michael & Demarcus James. Joe is confused why George is with James, since George is in PWU while James is a scab. George says he is independent of either group, and will be in James corner because he hates Colt Toombs.

-Match #3
Colt Toombs (PWU) defeated Demarcus James (scab) with a roll up
At one point, George and James were attacking Toombs outside the ring. James was going to ram Toombs into the announce desk, but Wilcox broke it up and prevented George from hitting Toombs with the ring bell. After the match, Toombs KO'd George with the Superman Punch, and gave Wilcox props over the mic.

-Don Coss introduced the FLASHBACK segment. Frank Bonnema is interviewing Matt Borne and Steve Regal. Regal attacks Borne and tears off his suit, leaving him in his pink underwear and cowboy boots, which caused Bonnema to crack up.

-Joe V interviews Jonas Albert Robinson & Jorel Nelson. Robinson says he and Nelson aren't scabs, they are opportunists. They call out the Blanchards.

-Joe V interviews the Blanchards and Mr. Ooh La La. They would be the best heel act in the promotion if they weren't babyfaces.

-Match #4
PNW tag team champs the Blanchard Brothers (PWU) defeated Jorel Nelson & Jonas Albert Robinson (scabs) when Bubba pinned Nelson after a Sleeper Suplex

-Backstage, Grappler gives Exile a pep talk for his match with Baeden. That dastardly Grappler is playing both sides.

-Match #5
Exile (PWU) defeated Erik Baeden (scab) with a spear
After the match, Grappler celebrated Exile's victory.

A clean sweep for PWU against the scabs, but they are debuting new scabs next week

DOA results - Gresham, OR 4/28/13

DOA "Anger Management"
Gresham, OR @ the East Portland Moose Lodge
Sunday April 28, 2013

The show started 25 minutes late. From what I heard, it was because the Portland Wrestling Uncut tapings just happened to run long, preventing a lot of the crew from getting to the show on time.

The show opened with DOA champ Dr. Kliever confronting promoter Terry Farness about an unsafe work environment. Kliever had a contract for Farness to sign, presumably changing the main event from a streetfight to a regular match, but I couldn't quite make out everything they were saying. Farness tricked Kliever into signing a different contract, which allows J_Sinn Sullivan to return to DOA (Kliever had beat Sullivan in a loser leaves town match). Farness announced Kliever will face J_Sinn in a streetfight at the Moose Lodge on June 9th.

Michael Sweetser returned and introduced the also returning SCOTTY MAC. The evil Canadians get the crowd riled up and out comes Mac's opponent, my personal favorite, RAVENOUS RANDY MYERS. Myers channeled Shawn Michaels and picked his nose with the Canadian flag, which Scotty Mac pointed out was weird since Myers is also from Canada.

1) Ravenous Randy Myers defeated Scotty Mac

Quiz was at the announce table with the Pure title belt, which he stole from Ethan HD. He taunted Ethan with the belt as he came out. Before the match between Ethan and Jonas Albert Robinson could start, Eric Right came out. He said since his opponent, Cameron Starr, couldn't make it to the show, he has been added to the Pure title match. He then informed his partner, Robinson, that tonight they are not friends or partners.

2) Pure champ Ethan HD won a 3-way over Jonas Albert Robinson and Eric Right
Robinson helped Right to the back after the match, so their team is intact. Ethan and Quiz argued over the Pure title belt at the announce table.

3) Tag team champs Rock'n Ricky Gibson & CJ Edwards defeated Kellen Raeth & Jorel Nelson
Some women in the front row gave Edwards a couple bras to taunt Raeth with. Another funny moment was one of the guys (Edwards I think) doing a top rope dive, which caused a woman in the front row to spill her hot dog. She then proceeded to take a solid five minutes to clean up from the hot dog. How many damn toppings did she have on that thing?

Wade BY GOD Hess comes out next. He lets us know that his partner Nate Andrews is unable to wrestle due to injuries sustained at the show in Keizer on Friday, so he will wrestle alone tonight.

4) The Blanchard Brothers (w/ Mr. Ooh La La) defeated Wade BY GOD Hess in a handi-cap match

5) Mike Santiago defeated Tony Kozina
These guys worked hard, but it was like Indy wrestling does Japan overkill. On three different occasions they did the whole barely able to stand and trade hard slaps and punches spot. They had tons of near falls. Plenty of ground work. But it just didn't click for me. It didn't tell a story. It was just a collection of spots and drama that work in the correct context, but didn't seem to work here. Maybe it would have played better in front of a different crowd. After the match, Santiago said he got into wrestling because of Davey Richards, and since Kozina was Richards mentor, he wouldn't be a wrestler without Kozina. They hug and raise hands.

6) DOA champ Dr. Kliever, Draven Vargas, & Ethan HD defeated Exile, HB Quiz, & Derek Drexl
Ethan was subbing for Pat Large. He and MJ weren't at the show, and they never said why. The finish saw Quiz and Ethan get into a tug-o-war over the Pure title belt. Exile went to spear Ethan, just as he let go of the belt, causing Quiz to take the spear. Kliever pinned Quiz to retain his title. Quiz is not allowed a title shot for six months because of the pin. After the match, Quiz blamed Exile for the loss. He and Drexl put over DOA and did the normal way too long babyface promo to end the show.

Next DOA show is May 10th in Independence with Hess vs. Bubba in a first blood match. Next show in Portland is June 9th with Kliever vs. J_Sinn in a streetfight.

Portland Wrestling Uncut T.V. recap - 4/27/13

-Joe V interviews Exile. The Grappler and his REPLACEMENT WRESTLERS (don't call them scabs, punk) come out. Grappler takes credit for getting Exile his PNW title shot, but Exile says he earned it himself. God Save the Queen plays and GENTLEMAN GEORGE MICHAEL comes out.  He's still mad that Colt Toombs beat him six months ago and wants a rematch. Grappler books Toombs v George for later in the show. Now Mike Santiago is out. He says Thunder is the biggest bully in the Northwest (Thunder attacked him with a chain a while back), so Grappler books Thunder v Santiago.

-Former XFL SUPERSTAR JOSH WILCOX joins Joe V on commentary again this week

-Match #1
Colt Toombs defeated Gentleman George Michael with a roll up after George missed Toombs and charged into the turnbuckle. Post-match, the scabs attacked Toombs until Pat Large made the save.

-Joe V interviewed Toombs and Large. They have buried their differences to FIGHT THE SCABS!

-Joe V interviewed Roddy Piper and a young girl, who he says is an honor student. Piper lets her say hi to her friends and teachers. Turns out she's Bubba Blanchard's daughter. The Blanchards and Mr. Ooh La La come out. Bubba tells a story about how his daughter used five years worth of her savings to buy catering for all the wrestlers, because the evil promoter never pays them and they can't afford to eat.

-Match #2 - PNW Tag Team Championship
The Blanchard Brothers (c) defeated Dr. Kliever and Erik Baeden when Jeremy pinned Baeden. The finish was Bubba giving Baeden a German Suplex while Jerenmy clotheslined Baeden. Except the suplex was too fast and Jeremy never actually caught up with the clothesline.

-Joe V interviews Thunder. Santiago attacks Thunder from behind with a bullrope and their match comes to an impromptu start.

-Match #3
Thunder defeated Mike Santiago by DQ when the scabs attacked Thunder. Things didn't work out well for the scabs as Thunder cleaned house on them. Santiago and Thunder exchanged words.

-Joe V interviewed PNW champ Big Ugly

-Match #4 - PNW Heavyweight Championship
Big Ugly (c) vs. Exile ended in a T.V. time limit draw. Exile had Ugly in a sleeper hold and Ugly was just about out when time limit expired to save his title. Keep in mind, Ugly is the babyface, so this is kind of a weird finish.

Portland Wrestling Uncut T.V. recap - 4/20/13

-The show opens with Colt Toombs and Patrick Large outside the TV Studio egging the Grappler's car as he drives in. Grappler and the scabs head into the building and are met by a NO SCABS sign. They tear it up and head in anyway. Rebels.

-Joe V interviews the Grappler and THE SCABS. Grappler says they are REPLACEMENT WRESTLERS, not scabs. Grappler says his guys are tough and not whiners and babies like the Portland Wrestling regulars. Mr. Ooh La La interrupts, complete with sweet French music. He offers Grappler a bright colorful mask as an upgrade from the drab colors he's been wearing for fifty or sixty years. Grappler is pissed. Ooh La La suggests Grappler see an anger management specialist. Bubba Blanchard comes out and challenges one of Grapplers SCABS. Grappler sends in Eric Baeden, who wrestles for the WCWC out of Salem, and currently holds their tag team title with Cedric the Hitman.

-Match #1
Eric Baeden defeated Bubba Blanchard by DQ when Bubba refused to break a choke. Brickhouse Barretta (a scab), who I have seen on DOA shows, runs in for the save. Jeremy Blanchard comes out and we have an IMPROMPTU TAG TEAM MATCH. Teddy Long would love this. After a commercial break, we return to Barretta and Baeden double teaming Jeremy. No clue where Bubba went, but he eventually returns with Big Ugly for the save. All the scabs attack the Blanchards and Ugly, BUT THE LIGHTS GO OUT. When they come back on ROWDY RODDY PIPER IS IN THE RING! Piper cleans house with a kendo stick. Piper basically tells the regulars to quit being bitches and fight the scabs. He makes a battle royal for the main event with the winner getting a shot at Big Ugly's title. Piper says he will give the Grappler and his scabs a war.

-Match #2
Mike Santiago defeated Patrick Large by holding the ropes for leverage during the pinfall
I guess the strike is over now because this match was with two of the regular PWU guys

-Joe V interviews PNW champ Big Ugly. He says he loves Portland and comes here by choice. He isn't from the area, but has been coming up from California for the last 12 years. He says he will take the belt all over the country and defend it against everyone. He buries Championship Wrestling from Hollywood and says the guys from PWU are the best.

-Match #3
Exile won the #1 contender Battle Royal, last eliminating the Blanchard Brothers.
The other participants were Patrick Large, Colt Toombs, Eric Right, CJ Edwards, Bubba Blanchard, Jeremy Blanchard, Devon Divine, Brickhouse Barretta, Demarcus James, Eric Baeden, Avarice, El Phoenix, Ricky Gibson, Buddy Highway, Exile, Ethan HD, Thunder, Dr. Kliever, Mike Santiago, Mr. Ooh La La, and a guy in a Rey Misterio mask, whose name I didn't hear because Joe V and Josh Wilcox decided to TALK OVER THE RING ANNOUNCER while he was introducing the wrestlers. It was funny because they joked about him not having a name, even though the ring announcer very clearly said a name, we just couldn't hear it because they were talking.

-Joe V interviewed Exile and the Grappler. There are problems between Grappler and Exile. Hopefully Exile rethinks this babyface turn, because he is a terrible promo and needs Grappler to talk for him.

This was a very overwhelming show. Lots going on. I'm not a fan of the whole scabs vs. PWU guys feud, but it is cool to see some different local guys getting T.V. time.

C.W. Bergstrom

C.W. Bergstrom has been a fixture in Northwest rings for close to 25 years. Tomorrow night he has his retirement match.

Bergstrom began wrestling and refereeing for Don Owen in 1989. He spent the next couple years as a prelim wrestler, before moving up the card near the end of Owen's promotion. One of his greatest claims to fame was being the final PNW Heavyweight champion when Don Owen closed up shop.

Bergstrom spent some time in the USWA, as Principal Bergstrom, including a match with Jerry Lawler at the Mid-South Coliseum. I don't know if it's true, but I always heard he had a WWF deal to come in and feud with the 1-2-3 Kid as the Principal, but it never materialized.

Bergstrom returned to Oregon, where he remained on the indy scene for the next 20 years. During that time he wrestled for virtually every promotion that has come and gone. He has been on several famous cards in the area, including the AAA/CWUSA event in 1994 that Tonya Harding appeared on as Eddie Guerrero and Art Barr's manager.

Bergstrom's final match will be on the Blue Collar Wrestling card Sunday April 21st at the North Portland Eagles (7611 N. Exeter Ave). 6 PM bell time. The event is a fundraiser for Junior Roughriders Baseball.  All tickets are $8.

Portland Wrestling Uncut T.V. recap - 4/13/13

-Show opens with Joe V interviewing Roddy Piper's daughter, Falon Toombs. She says Portland Wrestling Uncut is a family and introduces her dad. Piper says Grappler's show last week made him sick because it was not family friendly. He says he created this show for children to enjoy. They discuss Grappler's scabs, who are supposed to arrive next week. Piper says wrestlers from Hollywood don't scare him. They are setting up Grappler and the outsiders vs. Piper and the Portland crew. Not sure if they are actually going to use Hollywood guys, or if that was the only professional looking taped footage they could get to fill the shows.

-Match #1 - Championship Wrestling from Hollywood (joined in progress)
Los Banditos defeated the Tribe to win the Hollywood tag team title

-Promo for a live event at the Milwaukie Elks Lodge this Tuesday. No matches announced. All the wrestlers are supposed to be on strike, so how can there be a live event?

-Back to Joe V and Piper. Piper says the Blanchards could beat the Hollywood champs, and even thinks Mr. Ooh La La could beat them up.

-Match #2 - Rebroadcast
The Blanchard Brothers defeated Wade BY GOD Hess & Exile to win the PNW tag team title

-Piper and Colt Toombs introduce the next classic match. Piper tells stories about the wrestlers in the match, including Lonnie Mayne and the Sheepherders. Fun segment.

-Flashback: Highlights of Roddy Piper, Red Bastien, & Sam Bass going to a time limit draw with Buddy Rose and the Sheepherders.  I'd guess this was from around 1980.

-Joe V interviewed the Grappler, who refuses to name who his replacement wrestlers are.

-Match #3 - Championship Wrestling from Hollywood (joined in progress)
SoCal Crazy defeated Che Cabrera

-Match #4 - Rebroadcast
Thunder defeated Dr. Kliever & Exile to free Wade BY GOD Hess from the Grappler

-Joe V interviews Grappler to close the show. New shows return next week (they are taping them Sunday). Grappler says his replacement wrestlers will be there. Joe V corrects him and calls them scab wrestlers.

Dutch Savage Hospitalized

Dutch Savage suffered a stroke on Wednesday and is currently in ICU.  Dutch was one of the all time greats, and a very important person in the area historically.  When I was a teenager going to CWUSA at the Baggley Center, where Dutch did the play by play, I'd often talk to him.  He was always very nice, despite the fact I'm sure I was a complete annoyance. Here's hoping he pulls through.

DOA Match of the Week: Kliever vs. J_Sin

In case you missed it, DOA's latest youtube update:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zUKm92r2Pk&feature=youtu.be

J_Sin Sullivan puts his career on the line against Dr. Kliever's DOA title.  From the 3/10 show at the East Portland Moose Lodge.

WCWC results - Salem, OR 4/6/13

Paul Bearer Tribute Show @ Stephens Middle School

1) Stoney McMoverson defeated Lightning champ Freddy Bravo for the title. Post-match, the title change was overturned when McMoverson unmasked to reveal Eric Right.

2) Causmo, Cody Smith, & Jorel Nelson defeated Jay Maddix, Paul Raze, & Alex Prestige

3) Danny Duggan defeated Mike Santiago

4) Cameron Matthews defeated Nick Madrid

5) Wade Hess defeated James Morgan by DQ when the Family Stone interfered

6) Cedric the Hitman & Erik Baeden defeated the Can Am Experience to win the vacant WCWC tag team title

7) WCWC champ Ethan HD vs. Nick Madrid vs. DJ Pringle (Paul Bearer's son) was a no-contest due to Ethan and Pringle constantly double teaming Madrid. Post-match saw run ins from most of the roster and general shenanigans.

Weird result in the main event.  I wasn't there, so maybe it isn't as weird as it reads, but I don't know how you can have DQ in a 3-way because of double teaming. Why would that be illegal? Would like to hear any first hand accounts from someone who was at the show. Feel free to comment here or e-mail: pnwprowrestling@gmail.com

Portland Wrestling Uncut T.V. recap - 4/6/13

-Don Coss opens the show

-Piper and Promoter Pete Schweitzer head into the locker room to talk to the talent.  Schweitzer offers Piper a shot of Jack Daniels but he turns it down.  The wrestlers tear into Schweitzer for not paying them and bring up he's done this in the past.  Kliever points out that Schweitzer was at the BCW show last weekend buying everyone drinks, yet he's supposed to be broke.  Schweitzer asks the wrestlers to call him first with problems, not Piper or the station. Schweitzer says he's going to refinance his house to help fund the promotion, which pisses off Exile for some reason.  He must realize how incredibly stupid a storyline is that tells the audience the promotion is a failure.

-The Grappler joins Don Coss and says he's the reason the show has ratings.  He says he worked for Don Owen and never whined and complained like today's wrestlers.  He says he's bringing in scabs from Hollywood and links to footage of Brian Cage vs. Tyler Cintron from Championship Wrestling from Hollywood.  After a commercial break, Colt Toombs shows up, and Grappler cuts a promo on him. Toombs says before Grappler shows more footage from Hollywood, he wants to see a match from Portland.

-Match #1 - Rebroadcast
Colt Toombs defeated the Grappler

-Flashback: Buddy Rose & Col. DeBeers promo (circa 89 I'd guess). Rose brings out 60 pounds of beef fat to show how much weight he lost on the Buddy Rose diet. He pulls off his shorts and is wearing tighty whities (except they are blue). Rose demonstrates his workout by bouncing his pecs/boobs. Next he brings a woman into the ring (which I believe was his wife) and she spots him doing about four sit-ups, which he says was ten. Next Rose brings in a fan who thinks he's in better shape. Rose does ten one-arm push-ups and when the fan tries he fails miserably. Rose instructs the fan to lose some belly weight. This was so good.

-Colt Toombs holds a 10-bell salute for Reed Flair

-Match #2 - NWA Junior Heavyweight Championship (from Hollywood July 2012)
Kevin Douglas (c) defeated Jack Zaler with a splash off the top rope

-Grappler is gloating about how good the Hollywood guys are, but Coss cuts him off and wants to see footage of Portland's champion.

-Match #3 - Rebroadcast
Big Ugly defeated Daivari to win the PNW title

-Coss closes the show with Toombs and Exile. There will be some kind of show next week because the wrestlers aren't quitting! But are they still striking?

Tony Borne vs. Lonnie Mayne - 3/5/68

Here is the Oregonian's coverage of the 3/5/68 Owen Promotions event at the Memorial Coliseum. The main event of Tony Borne vs. Lonnie Mayne drew the largest crowd in Portland history up until that point.  Owen ran several shows at the Coliseum through the 60's, but I can't find any records of a larger crowd than this.  The 60th Anniversary show in '85 (Piper vs. Rose and Flair vs. Billy Jack) drew 12,000, and a subsequent Extravaganza with Sgt. Slaughter and the Road Warriors also drew around 8,000.  Hogan drew 8,600 against King Kong Bundy in 1986.  The modern WWE shows, of course, have outdrawn it several times.
